North West London Jets Training Agenda
North West London Jets (NWLJ) are committed to the development of each and every player associated with the club.
NWLJ are continually researching new football training methods, drills and ideologies in order to stay ahead of the game on and off the field.
NWLJ divide their training seasons into three terms. Please see the table below which shows the topics NWLJ teach per term and an explanation about our training agenda.
NWLJ follow a football philosophy known as Coerver Coaching which was introduced in 1984 by Alfred Galustian and Charlie Cooke. Their philosophy on football training has been adopted by professional football clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid etc and now us!!!!

An Explanation of the Termly Agenda
The first term is aimed at developing the players' confidence and familiarity with the ball at their feet so they feel comfortable on the ball in opposed and unopposed match situations.
The second term looks to build on the players' confidence and ball familiarity by progressing onto passing and receiving the ball. This involves players learning how to pass and control the ball using different parts of the foot.
NWLJ understands that the younger the player the more eager they are to have the ball, therefore we try and educate all players from aged 6+ on the fundamentals of defending so our players do not dive in for tackles but know how and when to mark, close down and delay an attack when the other team has possession of the ball.
Football has progressed a lot over the past decade and movement off the ball is now an important part of the game, consequently we try and teach our players how they can influence a game by their movement off the ball.
Finishing encompasses shooting with the lace, inside and outside of the foot. However, for our older players we look to develop their finishing techniques by incorporating volleying and heading as well as progressing the basic shooting techniques they learnt when they were younger.
Term three for our under 7's, 8's and 9's is used for revision purposes to reinforce ball familiarity and to work on the teams' ability to play football on the ground. The players in these respective age groups will revisit topics such as dribbling, beating an opponent, turning, passing, moving and receiving and finishing.
Once our players reach under 10's we will look to progress their skill levels to include crossing, ariel ball control and switching play. Furthermore, because we want all our players to feel comfortable on the ball, we encourage all our players to take at least two/three touches before releasing possession of the ball. However, when our players reach under 11's, we look to develop their first touch by teaching them one touch passing, thereby, progressing their football skills further.
For our under 12's+, we look to build on the topics covered over the past seasons as well as to educate them about the offside rule. Each year, we will progress the drills and sessions to ensure all our players are consistently challenged so that their skill levels improve.
