COVID-19 Background
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.
Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.
The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it’s important that you also practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing into a flexed elbow).
The most common symptoms are:

COVID-19 Measures for Coaches & Managers
- All Coaches and Managers are equipped with face shield visors or masks, in order to protect themselves and players.
- A face shield visor or mask must be worn by all Coaches and Managers during training sessions and at Sunday match venues.
- All Junior Leaders are to wear face masks that are either provided by the Club or themselves, when working with younger age groups.
- Coaches and Managers will be equipped with hand sanitiser, in order to reduce the potential spread of germs.
- All players, as well as Coaches and Managers, must use hand sanitiser upon arrival to the training ground or match venue. The Coaches and Managers are responsible for distributing the sanitiser.
- Hand sanitiser must be used before a training session commences, prior to the training match (post the drills) and at the end of the training session.
- Hand sanitiser must be used prior to the warm-up at the match venue, at half-time (before taking on liquids) and post match.
- Should a player, Coach or Manager leave the training pitch or football field and then return, they must re-sanitise their hands before resuming activities.
- Coaches and Managers will be equipped with Surface Sanitising wipes to ensure that shared equipment, such as balls, corner flag poles and cones are cleansed at regular intervals, mitigating the risk of germs spreading.
- Coaches and Managers are encouraged to limit the close proximity of participants where possible. For example:
- Substitutes should stand 2 metres apart from each other, the coach and any spectators.
- Training matches should be designed to limit over-crowding (i.e. 3 teams playing a round robin on a 5 a-side pitch).
- When players are not involved in a training match, they should be sitting on the side of the pitch at least 2 metres apart from each other.
- Coaches, Managers and Junior Leaders should keep a 1 metre distance from players when wearing a face covering, unless they have to intervene and demonstrate a technique
- Football Bibs must be washed at least weekly in order to limit the potential spreading of germs between usage.
COVID-19 Measures for Players
- Players should not attend training or matches if they or a family member display any of the following COVID-19 symptoms:
- High Temperature
- New or Continuous cough
- Tiredness
- Loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
- New skin rash (until diagnosed as non-coronavirus)
- When players are not actively involved in a warm-up, drill or match. they should keep at least a metres distance from other players. For example, when:
- Standing and listening to instructions in close proximity to one another
- Waiting for an activity or one's turn to start
- Entering a building to use its facilities
- Leaving the training pitch or football field.
- Players must use hand sanitiser (the Club will be providing hand sanitiser) upon arrival at training and the Sunday match venue
- Hand sanitiser is to be used before training sessions commence, prior to the training match (post the drills) and at the end of the training session.
- Hand sanitiser must be used prior to the warm-up at the match venue, at half-time before taking on liquids and post match.
- Should a player leave the training pitch or football field and then return, they must re-sanitise their hands before resuming activities.
- All players must bring their own refreshments to training and matches. The refreshments should be clearly labelled with the players name, in order to avoid the accidental sharing of liquids.
- Refreshments are not to be shared amongst players or other participants.
- During the registration card checks, players must stand at least 2 metres distance from each other and all members of the opposition (including the opposing Manager / nominated registration verifier)
- Substitutes should stand 2 metres apart from each other, the coach and any spectators.
- Players should avoid spitting, shouting or raising their voices when facing each other.
- Players should arrive fully dressed and equipped for training and matches.
- Players should avoid shaking hands with each other and the opposition.
- Goal celebrations should be avoided, in order to minimise contact.
- Players should not congregate in groups. Everyone must keep to 2 metres social distance when waiting at a venue.
COVID-19 Measures for Parents & Spectators
- Parents, spectators or players who exhibit or have family members with COVID-19 symptoms should not attend training or matches. These symptoms include:
- High Temperature
- New or Continuous cough
- Tiredness
- Loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
- New skin rash (until diagnosed as non-coronavirus)
- Only 1 parent / spectator per player is allowed to attend a match for Safeguarding purposes only, providing that the guidance below is adhered to.
- Parents and spectators must wear masks when attending training or matches.
- Parents and spectators are advised to stand at least 1 metre apart from each other when attending matches and must also keep a 1 metre distance from all players, once the players have arrived at the match venue.
- Whilst matches are in progress, parents must stand behind the gated area or erected Respect Barrier, at least 2 metres from the pitch side.
- When collecting players from training, parents / guardians must not enter the training pitch. Parents / guardians are advised to remain by the entrance of the training facility in order to limit contact with other members of the public and also contact with other players. Players will be led to the entrance by the respective coach at the end of each session.
COVID-19 Measures for Transport (Guidance from the Football Association)
- Public Transport should not be used to travel to or from either training or match venues.
- People from a household or support bubble can travel together in the same vehicle.
COVID-19 Measures for Training
- A register of attendance will be maintained for all training sessions in support of track and trace requirements.
- The sharing of equipment should be kept to a minimum. This includes, footballs, cones and bibs
COVID-19 Measures for Match Days
- A register of attendance will be maintained for all Sunday matches in support of track and trace requirements.
- When arriving at a playing venue, all attendees should ensure that a 2 metre distance is kept from those that may be leaving the pitch.
- When leaving the playing venue, all attendees should ensure that a 2 metre distance is kept between those players and spectators arriving at the playing venue
- When the ball goes out of play, it should not be retrieved by non-participants and should be retrieved using feet rather than hands where possible.
- Players should avoid shaking hands with each other and the opposition.
- Goal celebrations should be avoided, in order to minimise contact.
- Hands should be washed at the earliest opportunity and personal equipment should be wiped down with a disinfectant.
- Participants should take their kit home and wash it themselves or have it washed by family members.
- Post activity showers should be taken at home.
COVID-19 Measures by PowerLeague
- There is no access to changing rooms and showers
- The number of people allowed into the PowerLeague building is limited, with people asked to maintain a social distance.
- Bar facilities are only to be used by those purchasing a drink.
- Toilets remain open and accessible for use.
- For access to pitches, all players are encouraged to enter and leave Mill Hill PowerLeague by the side gate, positioned to the left hand-side of the building.
- Players who arrive early to training are advised to remain outside and only enter the building to use the bathrooms.
